Please note: We only like good music so you should check out as much of this as possible and buy it all. Even if it's only one song at a time, if you like it, buy it. We tried to give album buying recommendations when possible.
- Fun (Everything) Ridiculously fun, upbeat indie pop from former lead singer/songwriter of The Format
- The Format (Everything they made) Great, melodic, Queen and Abba influenced power pop. Broken up but the spinoff band Fun(see above) is just as good if not better
- Fall Records (Indie label run by our friends Chris and Katie - home to Page France)
- Candle Records (Indie label out of Australia with lots of bands we love)
- Page France (Especially "Hello Dear Wind") Folksy indie pop
- The Salteens (anything) Ridiculously fun, upbeat indie pop
- Belle & Sebastian (anything) Twee pop
- Snow Patrol (Especially "Final Straw") Great Scottish rock
- The Argument (Especially "Recess Serenade") Often piano-based indie rock
- Housemartins (anything) Ridiculously fun, like a happy version of The Smiths
- Boo Radleys (Especially "Everything's Alright Forever") Amazing, sometimes noisy, melodic British pop
- Trash Can Sinatras (Especially "Cake" or "I've Seen Everything") Kind of like an amazing, Scottish version of the Dave Matthews Band but better in every way
- Velvet Underground (& Nico produced by Andy Warhol)
- Morrissey (anything) Melancholic Brit pop
- The Smiths (anything) Melancholic but faster tempoed Brit pop
- Beach Boys (anything)
- Queen (anything)
- Decemberists (her majesty) Folksy indie pop
- Killers (the new one with all the hits) Retro British synth pop done by Americans
- Jump Little Children (Especially "Vertigo" but "Mexico" off "Dim and the Dark" is one of the best songs ever written). Hard to categorize their sound but check out "Mexico" or "Cathedrals"
- Keane (anything) Piano-based melodic pop similar to Coldplay and A-Ha
- Ben Folds (or Ben Folds Five) - (Especially self titled or "Rockin' the Suburbs") Piano-based GREAT music
- Bleu (anything) - Indie rock, with a bent to the power pop world
- Coldplay (anything) - melodic Brit pop, often piano-based, amazing songs
- Dashboard Confessional - (anything, but especially "Swiss Army Romance"). Some call it "emo" music but no matter what, it's some of the best songwriting out there
- Fountains of Wayne - (anything) Indie pop that sometimes rocks. Super fun.
- Green Day (anything) Yes, it all sounds vaguely similar but it's almost all good poppy punk
- Jellyfish (anything) If Queen and the Beach Boys wrote and performed
together they would sound like this
- Jimmy Eat World (anything but "Clarity" and "Bleed American" are standouts) Just great indie rock
- The Shins (anything) a little bit folksy but mostly just fun, indie pop
- Elliot Smith (anything but his last one) Moody but beautifully layered indie pop
- The Stills (Logic Will Break) Cool indie rock
- Andy Stochansky (Only the "Five Star Motel" album, though) He's got a few albums but "Five Star" is completely amazing if you like stuff like:
- Tahiti 80 (anything) Melodic pop from Belgium or France, I think. Sounds a lot like Boo Radleys with strong Beach Boys influences
- Jawbreaker Old school indie rock
- Weezer (anything) Unlike some people, we like the new stuff as much as the old stuff. All just fun, poppy stuff with a bit of crunch to it
- Lucksmiths (especially "Happy Secret" and "Staring at the Sky")
Australian indie pop with great lyrics
- Darrel Hanlon (anything) More Australian indie pop. Similar to a lot of
Billy Bragg stuff
- The Mabels (anything) Even more Australian indie pop. Just great, simple stuff.
